Muslims all over the world celebrate Mawlid an-Nabi, which marks the birth of the Prophet Muhammad peace be upon him. During the Mawlid celebrations which last for the whole month of Rabi` al-Awwal, a large number of people go to the mosques, pray to Allah until late night. Most of the mosques in Makhachkala, Dagestani capital celebrated mawlid on 4 February, joining the millions of celebrations worldwide.

Mahmood Afandi (may Allah sanctify his soul), great shaykh, Qutb, Murshid of the Naqshbandi tariqah was born approximately in 1810, in the village of Almalo (Dagestani village, now Azerbaijani territory).
In his youth he served as a clerk at khans Danial Sultanali and his relative Hajji Agabekov. They both were admired by the talents and wit of Mahmud Afandi(may Allah sanctify his soul).
Russia to allot almost billion rubles for educating Islamic experts

Russia will continue preparing experts on history and culture of Islam, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said.
"We have allotted money for it in the budget this year, in 2012 and in 2013. We have envisaged a significant sum - almost a billion rubles (more than $32 million - IF)," Medvedev said at his meeting with Muslim clerics in Ufa, Bashkortostan.
