Global conference in Kuwait seeks to raise $1.5 bln for Syrian refugees

Kuwait’s Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah pledged $300 million on Wednesday to help fund humanitarian efforts for millions of Syrians affected by nearly two years of conflict.
Announcing the pledge at an aid donor conference, al-Sabah added that “horrifying reports” of violence had raised questions over the future of Syria and aid efforts had to be redoubled.
Speaking at the conference, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon appealed to all combatants in Syria’s civil war to stop fighting “in the name of humanity.”

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) organized an international conference in Beijing recently, highlighting the long-standing history and cooperation between China and the Muslim world.
The conference titled “China and the Muslim World: Cultural Encounters” discussed topics such as the historical relations between China and the Muslim world, China and the Muslim World in global context, as well as topics related to art and culture.

GCC chief sees union a reality

Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Abdulatif Al-Zayyani said yesterday that Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah’s proposal to move the GCC from a cooperation to a union would soon become reality.
Al-Zayyani, speaking on the 31st anniversary of the founding of the GCC, extended congratulations to the leaders of the member states on the occasion. The GCC was announced in Abu Dhabi on May 25, 1981.
Muslim Scholars Meet in Russia on Radicalism

A host of Muslim scholars and religious leaders will gather in the Russian capital this week to issue a fatwa condemning radicalization and extremism.
In a conference themed "Islamic Doctrine Against Radicalism", about 50 Russian muftis and imams and nearly 40 prominent Muslim scholars and thinkers will meet in Moscow on May 25.
The two-day conference is organized by International Center “al-Wasatya” (Kuwait), Scientific-Educational Center (Russia) and the International Union for Muslim Scholars.

OIC to hold conference on refugees in Muslim world in Turkmenistan

The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is preparing to organize an international ministerial conference on “Refugees in the Muslim World” in Ashgabat, in cooperation with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).
The conference will take place on May 10-11. According to a press statement from the OIC, the main objective of the conference is to highlight the organization's support for member states as they assist large-scale refugee populations, as well as the mandate and responsibility of the UNHCR towards refugees.
