Moscow shows "Muslims - pride of Russia"

Production Center Art-films and "Tvorog - Media Group" launched a movie project "Muslims - the pride of Russia" to portray outstanding contribution by contemporary Russian Muslims. Presentation of the first two films took place last weekend at the Moscow Government House of public organizations.

The project authored by Ahmad Makarov and directed by Abdullah Issa is financially supported by Islamic culture, science and education development foundation.

World renowned scholars visit Dagestan

Last Friday, internationally renowned Islamic theologians gave sermons in three major mosques of Makhachkala. Worshipers at Malygina Street mosque listened to a sermon by member of the Supervisory Board of International Union of Muslim Scholars Shaykh Abd al-Rahman Bin Abdullah Al-Mahmoud, Dr. Mualay Rashid Umri Alawi visited mosque at Akushinsky Street, and Secretary General of the Union Dr. Ali al-Muhiddin al-Qaradaghi spoke about Islam in the Central Jum`ah Mosque of Makhachkala.

Qaradawi Criticism Upsets Russia Muslims

The highest Muslim religious authority in Russia has criticized prominent scholar Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qaradawi over his criticism of Moscow for supporting Syrian President Bashar Al-Assad’s crackdown on anti-regime protestors.

"Unfortunately, some claim today that Russia is the number one enemy of the Muslims," Ravil Gainutdih, the head of the Russian Council of Muftis, told the European Islamic Council in Istanbul, Interfax news agency reported.

Headscarf debate highlights Russian Muslims' grievances

A ban on girls wearing the Islamic headscarf to a school in southern Russia has angered Muslims and forced President Vladimir Putin, who has robustly defended the Orthodox Church, to affirm that Russia is a secular state.

Muslims in the town of Kara Tyube in the Stavropol region say the ban on the hijab at School No. 12 forces their children to choose between their religion and a state education.

Russia's 'oldest person' dies age 122

A man thought to be Russia's oldest person has died at the age of 122, authorities in the North Caucasus region of Dagestan said.

Muhammad Labazanov, a retired labourer who lived in Serebryakovka village close to the city of Kizlyar, died early Friday, the local government said on its website.

Labazanov was reportedly born in Dagestan and worked in a sawmill and later on a farm. He never learned to read and write.

The date of his birth has not been authenticated as he did not have an original birth certificate.

Russian Muslims honor Prophet’s relics in Chechnya

An Islamic exhibition showcasing 16 of the holy relics that belonged to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) opened in Grozny, Chechnya’s capital city.

The exhibition which opened yesterday in Ahmad Haji Kadyrov central mosque will last for four days giving an opportunity for every Muslim to join in the celebration and see these legendary relics.

Religious Books Ban Upsets Russia Muslims

A court ruling banning several religious and historic books is inviting a storm of fury from Russian Muslims, who see the verdict as “unjustified”.

“We consider the prohibition of religious literature as an attempt at the revival of total ideological control,” the Russian Council of Muftis said in a statement posted on its website and cited by Russia Today.

“Such practice is unacceptable in a democratic society…and is an alarm signal for Russian citizens.”
