Angry Crowd Storms US Consulate in Libya; One US Staff Member Reported Dead

Reports late on Tuesday said that one US consulate staff member was killed in the Libyan city of Benghazi following the storming of the building by angry protesters enraged about reports of an amateur film produced in the US by expatriate Egyptian Coptic Christians insulting the Prophet Muhammad.
Similar angry protests also occurred outside the US embassy building in Cairo, Egypt earlier in the day.

The United States warned on Saturday it may soon close its embassy in Syria over the worsening security situation there. "While no decision has been made, we have serious concerns about the deteriorating security situation in Damascus,” the Department of State said in a statement.
"We have also advised the Syrian government that unless concrete steps are taken in the coming days, we may have no choice but to close the mission,” the statement said.
Indonesian ambassador receives honorary medal from Russian muftis

The Russia Muftis Council has awarded Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Hamid Awaluddin with an “Al-Fahr” honorary medal for his role in initiating partnership between Indonesian and Russian Muslims.
The medal was handed over by council chairman Ravil Gaynutdin, who along with other prominent Russian muftis escorted it to Hamid’s official residence in Moscow on Saturday evening.

Syrian diplomats could face expulsion from Britain if evidence comes to light of action by the country's embassy targeting anti-regime Syrian nationals in the UK, the Foreign Office has told the Syrian ambassador.
Sami Khiyami was summoned to the Foreign Office on Thursday to be hold that "harassment or intimidation of Syrians in our country is unacceptable and will not be tolerated". Officials said complaints to the media and police were being investigated and could result in expulsions for behaviour in breach of diplomatic protocol.

A senior Iranian lawmaker said that Iran may shut down the British embassy in Tehran, local satellite Press TV reported on Wednesday.
Iran's Majlis (parliament) will seriously pursue the issue of shutting down the UK embassy in Tehran in case the "violent crackdown on British citizens" continue, said Mahmoud Ahmadi Bighash, a member of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of Iran's Majlis.

A group of Libyan diplomats and staff stormed the Libyan Embassy in Sofia, smashing statues and portraits of Muammar Qaddafi and declaring the embassy under the control of the opposition forces, television channel bTV reported Monday.
Footage from the private television station showed several supporters of the opposition taking down the Libyan flag and smashing a bust of Qaddafi to pieces in the embassy's yard.

Syrian government supporters smashed windows at the US Embassy in Damascus on Monday, raised a Syrian flag and scrawled graffiti calling the American ambassador a "dog" in anger over the envoy's visit to an opposition stronghold, witnesses said.
“The charge will be called here. (Syria) has not lived up to its international obligations,” State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said, explaining that the Syrian ambassador was on vacation.

Iran's Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Salehi opened the Islamic republic's first embassy in Ljubljana on Monday and said that his country is willing to develop ties with Slovenia.
Hours after his arrival in Slovenia, Salehi inaugurated the Iranian embassy in Ljubljana and said that Iran is keen on enhanced trade and cultural ties with Slovenia, the official IRNA news agency reported.
