Prophet Dawud [David (P.B.U.H.)]
PROPHET DAWUD [DAVID (P.B.U.H.)]
What Quran said about him?
Bear with what they say, and remember Our bondman David, lord of might, Lo! He was ever turning in repentance (toward Allah). • Lo! We subdued the hills to hymn the praises (of their Lord) with him at nightfall and sunrise, • And the birds assembled; all were turning unto Him. • We made his kingdom strong and gave him wisdom and decisive speech. [Surah Sad (Chapter of Sad), Verses 17-20]
And We verily gave knowledge unto David and Solomon, and they said: Praise be to Allah, Who has preferred us above many of His believing slaves! [Surah Al-Naml (Chapter of the Ant), Verse 15]
And your Lord is Best Aware of all who are in the heavens and the earth. And we preferred some of the prophets above others, and unto David We gave the Psalms. [Surah Al-Isra (Chapter of the Night Journey), Verse 55]
And when they went into the field against Goliath and his hosts they said: Our Lord! Bestow on us endurance, make our foothold sure, and give us help against the disbelieving folk. • So they routed them by Allah's leave and David slew Goliath; and Allah gave him the kingdom and wisdom, and taught him of that which He wills. And if Allah had not repelled some men by others the earth would have been corrupted. But Allah is a Lord of Kindness to (His) creatures. [Surah Al-Baqarah (Chapter of the Heifer), Verses 250-251]
And assuredly We gave David grace from Us, (saying): O you hills and birds, echo his psalms of praise! And We made the iron supple unto him, • Saying: Make you long coats of mail and measure the links (thereof). And do you right. Lo! I am Seer of what you do. [Surah Saba’ (Chapter of Sheba), Verses 10-11]
And has the story of the litigants come unto You? How they climbed the wall into the royal chamber; • How they burst in upon David, and he was afraid of them. They said: Be not afraid! (We are) two litigants, one of whom has wronged the other, therefore judge aright between us; be not unjust; and show us the fair way. • Lo! This my brother has ninety and nine ewes while I had one ewe; and he said: Entrust it to me, and he conquered me in speech. • (David) said: He has wronged you in demanding your ewe in addition to his ewes, and lo! Many partners oppress one another, save such as believe and do good works, and they are few. And David guessed that We had tried him, and he sought forgiveness of his Lord, and he bowed himself and fell down prostrate and repented. • So We forgave him that; and lo! He had access to Our Presence and a happy journey's end. • (And it was said unto him): O David! Lo! We have set you as a viceroy in the earth; therefore judge aright between mankind, and follow not desire that it beguile you from the way of Allah. Lo! Those who wander from the way of Allah have an awful doom, forasmuch as they forgot the Day of Reckoning. • And We created not the heaven and the earth and all that is between them in vain. That is the opinion of those who disbelieve. And woe unto those who disbelieve, from the Fire! • Shall We treat those who believe and do good works as those who spread corruption in the earth; or shall We treat the pious as the wicked? • (This is) a Scripture that We have revealed unto you, full of blessing, that they may ponder its revelations, and that men of understanding may reflect. [Surah Sad (Chapter of Sad), Verses 21-29]
And Solomon was David's heir. And he said: O mankind! Lo! We have been taught the language of birds, and have been given (abundance) of all things. This surely is evident favour. [Surah Al-Naml (Chapter of the Ant), Verse 16]
