His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday met with President of the Republic of Dagestan Magomedsalam , who started a visit to Jordan today.

The King and president Magomedov voiced their keenness to boost cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

His Majesty highlighted opportunities available to forge closer trade and economic cooperation between Jordan and the Russian Republic of Dagestan with the participation of the private sector from both countries.

Jordan king dissolves parliament, calls new polls

Jordan's King Abdullah on Thursday dissolved the country's pro-government rubber stamp parliament, a constitutional move to pave the way for elections expected early next year.

The announcement was made on the eve of a rally organised by the main Islamist opposition, the Muslim Brotherhood, which is hoping to stage its largest demonstration on Friday since Arab Spring-inspired protests erupted last year.

Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal on Sunday made his first official visit to Jordan since the kingdom expelled him more than a decade ago and held talks with King Abdullah.

Meshaal was accompanied by Qatar’s Crown Prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. The visit was planned before an uprising erupted in Syria, where Hamas has had its main headquarters outside the Gaza Strip.

The leader of Jordan’s largest Islamist opposition group is calling on people to topple the country’s prime minister as 2,000 protesters took to the streets demanding he resign.

Anger has been rising over a decision by Jordanian lawmakers to clear Prime Minister Marouf Al-Bakhit of involvement in a casino scandal during his previous 2005-2007 term.

Muslim Brotherhood leader Hamam Saeed told nearly 500 people in a speech Friday that if Jordanians want “freedom,” they must “rise against their corrupt” prime minister.

Jordan ’s King Abdallah conferred on Sunday with the incumbent Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki and called for the formation of a new Iraqi government that leads to reconciliation among various components of the Iraqi people.

“King Abdallah underscored the importance of forming an Iraqi government that reflects aspirations of the Iraqi people and effectively contributes to building up a better future for the country,” a royal court statement said.

King Abdallah performs umrah

Jordan's King Abdallah arrived in Jeddah on Sunday to perform umrah. He was received by Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal at the King Abdul Aziz International Airport.

King Abdallah, who arrived here in his ihram, traveled to Makkah to perform the pilgrimage, a pious act during the holy month of Ramadan.

He was accompanied by Prince Abdulaziz bin Abdullah, adviser to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah, Saudi Press Agency reported.
