Dagestani leader and King of Jordan to cooperate in combating religious extremism

His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday met with President of the Republic of Dagestan Magomedsalam , who started a visit to Jordan today.

The King and president Magomedov voiced their keenness to boost cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

His Majesty highlighted opportunities available to forge closer trade and economic cooperation between Jordan and the Russian Republic of Dagestan with the participation of the private sector from both countries.

Talks during the meeting also dealt with the current situation in the Middle East as well as issues of concern to the Islamic world, mainly the holy city of Jerusalem.

At the meeting, which was attended by Royal Court Chief Riyad Karaki and Director of ther King's Office Imad Fakhoury, the King reviewed efforts exerted by Jordan to preserve the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem and protect the city's Arab and Islamic identity.

His Majesty voiced Jordan's rejection of any attempt to tamper with the holy shrines in Jerusalem and cautioned against Israeli measures that target the holy city, adding they would undermine opportunities to bring about peace and security in the region.

King Abdullah highlighted the role of the Amman Message in clarifying the true image of Islam and its teachings as a faith promoting moderation, tolerance and acceptance.

The Dagestan president extended an invitation to His Majesty to visit the Republic of Dagestan.

President Magomedsalam Magomedov arrived earlier in Amman today where he was received at the Marka Airport by Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Abdul Salam Abbadi and other officials.
