Syrian violence spills into Jordan, Lebanon

A Jordanian soldier was killed in clashes with armed militants trying to cross the border into Syria on Monday and sectarian clashes overnight in Lebanon left two dead as Syria’s civil war spilled into neighboring countries.

A team of U.S. military planners is in Jordan to help the Amman government grapple with Syrian refugees, bolster its military capabilities and prepare for any trouble with Syria's chemical weapons stockpiles, U.S. Defense Secretary Leon Panetta said on Wednesday.
The team, led by special operations forces and comprising about 150 troops, mainly from the U.S. Army, is constructing a headquarters building in Amman from which to work with Jordanian forces on joint operational planning and intelligence sharing, a senior defense official said.

His Majesty King Abdullah II on Monday met with President of the Republic of Dagestan Magomedsalam , who started a visit to Jordan today.
The King and president Magomedov voiced their keenness to boost cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
His Majesty highlighted opportunities available to forge closer trade and economic cooperation between Jordan and the Russian Republic of Dagestan with the participation of the private sector from both countries.
US tries to make Jordan alternative state for Palestinians

"The West has some plans for Jordan to become the alternative country for the Palestinians, especially, of the West Bank," Jamal Wakim, professor at the Lebanese International University in Beirut said.
The analyst said the US envisages a certain solution for the Palestinians in Jordan at the expense of creating a state in Jordan that would host West Bank Palestinians.

Hamas chief Khaled Meshaal on Sunday made his first official visit to Jordan since the kingdom expelled him more than a decade ago and held talks with King Abdullah.
Meshaal was accompanied by Qatar’s Crown Prince Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani. The visit was planned before an uprising erupted in Syria, where Hamas has had its main headquarters outside the Gaza Strip.

The Jordanian government on Monday said it expected the killing of Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden would help end the “unjust campaign” against Islam.
“The killing of Bin Laden comes as part of the international anti-terrorism campaign, while his absence will contribute to the ending of the West’s unjust campaign against Islam,” an official spokesman was quoted as saying by the state-run Petra news agency.

Dozens of people were injured Friday as Jordanian protesters demanding reforms clashed with government supporters, pelting each other with stones, as unrest intensified in this key US ally.
Police fired water cannons to disperse the crowd, then hundreds of riot police, some wearing masks, stormed the area, hitting anti-government demonstrators with batons and dragging at least a dozen into a nearby government building.

In a joint press conference with Swedish foreign minister Carl Bildt, Jordan's Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh stressed that the creation of an independent Palestinian state on the Palestinian soil with East Jerusalem as its capital is a non-negotiable right.
