Gilad Sharon, Writes Op-Ed: 'We Need To Flatten Entire Neighborhoods In Gaza'

Gilad Sharon, son of former Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, wrote an op-ed on Sunday calling for even more aggressive Israeli strikes in Gaza.

"We need to flatten entire neighborhoods in Gaza. Flatten all of Gaza," states Sharon in The Jerusalem Post.

The Israeli army started calling up 16,000 reservists on Friday, as officials said the Jewish state was preparing for a possible ground offensive into the Gaza Strip.

“They’re distributing emergency call-up notices now, the process has started,” an army spokeswoman told AFP.

“As part of Operation Pillar of Defense, the IDF (army) will begin recruiting 16,000 reservists,” the military said on its official Twitter feed.

A Palestinian man apparently suffering psychiatric problems was killed by Israeli troops after he approached Gaza’s border fence, Palestinian medical sources said on Monday.

The 20-year-old man, named as Ahmed Al-Nabaheen, was injured on Sunday evening, but the Israeli army refused to allow Palestinian ambulances to the scene to transport him, the medics said.

His body was recovered on Monday morning.

An Israeli army spokeswoman confirmed that a “suspect” had approached the border area.

Two Gazans died in an Israeli strike on Sunday, raising to five the total number killed as Israel pressed a series of raids targeting militants, among them a top Salafist leader.

Palestinian witnesses said the latest Israeli strike targeted a motorcycle near Deir Al-Balah in central Gaza, killing two militants in their early 20s.

The Israeli army confirmed the strike, saying it had targeted “a terrorist rocket squad.”

Sweden's third aid ship 'Estelle' and 20 peace supporters on board have been on their way to Gaza since June 20.

Rights activists on the "Ship to Gaza Sweden 'Estella'" which is sailing to bring relief equipment to Gaza have said, "If Israeli government commits another terrible crime, we cannot stop them."

Media coordinator of the Ship to Gaza Estella campaign, Mikael Lofgren informed Anadolu Agency about the ship and their initiative.
