Israel begins new West Bank settlements

Israel has begun construction work for 300 new settlements in south Bethlehem, a Palestinian activist told The Anadolu Agency on Monday.
Coordinator of the Popular Committee against the Wall and Settlements, Ahmad Salah, said the new Israeli settlement effort in the town of al-Khader covered an area of 460 hectares, and it was part of a wider Israeli decision to transform 40 Israeli military camps on several areas in the West Bank into civilian settlements.

The father of 18-year-old Mohamed Abu Nada, who died on Sunday in the Gaza strip following sever injuries suffered after he set himself on fire late last week, said the young man did so to protest the deplorable conditions he and his family experienced living under economic and military blockade as Palestinians.
"I asked my son to go and look for a job, because I don't have a job and we don't have any source for living," Abu Mohamed Abu Nada told reports in Gaza.

Construction of 61 percent of the "Security Fence" named by Israeli government or "Wall of Shame" named by Palestinians has been completed so far.
The construction of the Israel West Bank wall had started just after the "Second Intifada" in 2004. It has reached 438 kilometres long until now.
The height of the wall changes from 8 to 12 metres from place to place. There are barbed-wire entanglements and security towers every 200 metres.
Palestinians send aid to Palestinians in Syria

An aid convoy left the West Bank city of Ramallah on Sunday carrying food and medicine in a symbol of support for Palestinian refugees caught up in the crisis in Syria.
“Today the first convoy will leave from here, from the West Bank, from Palestinian soil toward Syria,” Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said at a press event marking the event.
An official donations drive netted around $650,000 worth of food and medical aid from Palestinian companies, businessmen, and individuals during the charitable month of Ramadan.
Population of Jewish settlements in West Bank up 15,000 in a year

The number of Jewish settlers in the West Bank grew by more than 15,000 in the past year to reach a total that exceeds 350,000 for the first time and has almost doubled in the past 12 years.
Figures from Israel's population registry show a 4.5% increase in the past 12 months. Most of the newcomers moved into settlements that many observers expect to be evacuated in any peace deal leading to a Palestinian state.
