Iran doing final pre-start tests at nuclear plant

Iran is conducting final tests at its first nuclear power plant and it is expected to start generating electricity in the next two months, Iranian media said on Monday.
Meant to be the first of a network of nuclear power stations Iran says it is planning, the Russian-built Bushehr complex has missed deadline after deadline to come on stream, most recently fuel had to be removed and checked for technical problems.
Fars news agency said Bushehr would start injecting power into the national electricity grid in the next two months.

A video of the accomplishments of Israel's recently-retired military chief hints at Israel's unacknowledged role in attacks on the Iranian and Syrian nuclear programmes, according to an Israeli daily.
The video, shown on Monday at a farewell ceremony for outgoing chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi, showed scenes from the bombing of a suspected nuclear reactor in Syria in 2007, and of the damage caused by the Stuxnet computer worm which ravaged Iran's nuclear programme, the Haaretz newspaper said.
Hariri says Lebanon won’t pressure Iran on nukes

Lebanon’s prime minister said Monday his country will not be part of any international group that aims to pressure Iran over its controversial nuclear program.
Saad Hariri said Lebanon supports Iran's right to have nuclear power for peaceful purposes.
The West suspects Iran is seeking to develop a nuclear weapon — a charge Tehran denies, saying the program is only geared toward peaceful aims.
Iran ready to hold nuclear talks in Turkey

Iran said on Sunday it was ready to hold talks in Turkey with the six world powers on its controversial nuclear programme following a one-year break, turning to a neighbour seen as an ally.
The European Union's foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, representing the world powers in the negotiations, said she was awaiting official word from Tehran on a specific time and venue.
A response would follow after consultations with the major powers, her office said in Brussels.

Russia's nuclear chief said Thursday that the planned startup of Iran's first nuclear power plant will demonstrate that Iran is entitled to peaceful use of nuclear energy under international supervision.
Sergei Kiriyenko said at a meeting with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin that the uranium fuel will be loaded into the reactor in Iran's southern port of Bushehr on Saturday.
