Gene study settles debate over origin of European Jews
By AFP | 17 Jan 2013
Jews of European origin are a mix of ancestries, with many hailing from tribes in the Caucasus who converted to Judaism and created an empire that lasted half a millennium, according to a gene study published on Thursday.
The investigation, its author says, should settle a debate that has been roiling for more than two centuries.
Jews of European descent, often called Ashkenazis, account for some 90 percent of the more than 13 million Jews in the world today.

Around 500 mainly Jewish but some Christian and Muslim protesters gathered in Berlin on Sunday to demand the right to circumcision after a disputed court ruling in Germany outlawing the rite.
Some protesters were draped in Israeli flags, others wore orthodox Jewish dress for the peaceful demonstration on Berlin's Bebelplatz, infamous as the site of book-burning ceremonies carried out by Adolf Hitler's Nazis.
One banner at the demonstration accused Germany of reverting to a "colonial power" while another read: "Foreskin? No thank you!"

European rabbis meeting in Berlin on Thursday promised to defy the ruling by a court in the city of Cologne last month. They plan further talks with Muslim and Christian leaders in Stuttgart next week to see how they can fight the ban together.

Now Jews and Muslims in the Canadian province of Manitoba are getting together to stand up to the hate.

By Amy Teibel | AP | Jerusalem | 15 Mar 2012
All but lost amid the heated talk about a possible Israeli attack on Iran’s suspect nuclear program are the thousands of Jews who live in the Islamic Republic and could be caught in the middle.
Although Iran has a history of treating its Jewish minority fairly well, some Iranian Jews who have emigrated to Israel worry that an Israeli attack could expose family and friends still in Iran to retaliation.
Tag Mehir, The Israeli Jewish Terrorist Organization. A price tag that is too high.
By Dr Nancy Hartevelt Kobrin | Family Security Matters | 22 Dec 2011
As an Israeli Jewish psychoanalyst with a doctorate on Islam, I feel I have a moral responsibility and obligation to denounce the recent upsurge in Israeli Jewish violence committed by Tag Mehir (lit. Price Tag) against Israeli Muslims and especially the torching of their mosques and the destruction of their property. This has motivated me to share some thoughts and observations and hopefully a few possible solutions.
