Brunei announces tough new code of Islamic law

The sultanate of Brunei has announced it will enforce a tough new Sharia law penal code.
The code - to apply only to Muslims - is expected to introduce death by stoning for adulterers and the severing of limbs for theft.
Brunei already adheres to a stronger form of Islamic law than neighbouring Malaysia and Indonesia, banning the sale and consumption of alcohol.
The new code, to be enforced in six months, will strengthen that policy.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul said Tuesday Brunei has extensive investments in many countries in the world, adding that Turkey would like to draw investments from the country too.
"Brunei Investment Agency has strong investments in many countries. We believe that they will also include Turkey on their list to make investments," Gul told a joint press conference with visiting Brunei Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah in the Turkish capital, Ankara.

Every year, Brunei’s Muslims welcome new members of their community as hundreds of people choose to embrace the Islamic faith.
"We guide them so that they will practice Islam in their life,” Abd Aziz Hj Abd Kahar, head of Islamic and Mualaf Guidance Conservation Section at the Islamic Da'wah Center, told Asia One News.
“We wanted them to be a true Muslims, that are balanced internally and externally.”
Every year, no less than 300 people choose to embrace Islam in Brunei.
RBAF personnel embraces Islam

A personnel from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces (RBAF), 11384 Sgt Tom bin Manang from the Combat Engineers Squadron (CES), Support Battalion Royal Brunei Land Force (RBLF) had converted to Islam in an official ceremony held at the Surau of Islamic Dakwah Unit, Ministry of Religious Affairs, yesterday afternoon.
Present at the ceremony were the Acting Second-In Command of Support Battalion RBLF, Major Mazlan bin Dato Paduka Haji Manan, representatives from Combat Engineers Squadron (CES) and JAMA'AT personnel.
