NATO: Patriot deployment to take weeks not months

NATO will deploy Patriot missiles to Turkey’s border with Syria “within several weeks” after the move is approved, officials said Friday.
A team assessing possible sites for the air defense systems is making good progress and is expected to report back to NATO’s military command soon, alliance spokeswoman Oana Lungescu said. This opens the possibility that foreign ministers of the 28 member countries, meeting in Brussels on Tuesday and Wednesday, could make the final decision.

Turkish government report has revealed huge wealth of families of five leading 1980 coup generals as investigation into the most bloody military coup on Sept. 12 deepens.
The Finance Ministry's Financial Crimes Investigation Board (MASAK) completed its report on the wealth of five leading coup generals and revealed that families of the coup generals possess striking amount of wealth. The report was submitted to the 12th İstanbul High Criminal Court as part of the investigation into the 1980, Sept. 12 militar coup.
Majority in Turkey backs headscarved women working for state: report

A report prepared by the Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV) has revealed that 76.3 percent of people in Turkey think that headscarved women should be able to work in the public sector.
The report, titled “Definitions and the Expectations Regarding the New Constitution,” was prepared by TESEV with the participation of 2,699 people from 29 provinces.
Turkey calls on OIC members to recognise Syria opposition

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu called on Muslim nations to recognise a fledgling Syrian opposition coalition on Thursday and warned Turkey had both the will and capacity to defend its borders if violence continued to spill over.
Speaking at an Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) ministerial meeting in Djibouti, Davutoglu hailed the formation of the new opposition grouping as an "important achievement" and said President Bashar al-Assad's regime was on its last legs.

Turkish President Abdullah Gul confirmed on Thursday that Ankara was in talks with NATO about deploying a defence system on its soil to counter a potential missile threat from Syria.
NATO-member Turkey has already bolstered its own military presence along the 910-km (560-mile) border and has been responding in kind to mortar shells hitting its territory as a result of fighting between Syrian government forces and rebels.

A Turkish court began on Tuesday a trial of Israeli military officers in regard to a 2010 raid on the Turkish vessel Mavi Marmara, which left eight Turks and one Turkish-American dead.
Four Israeli officers former Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) Chief of General Staff Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi, Naval Forces commander Vice Adm. Eliezer Marom, Israel's military intelligence chief Maj. Gen. Amos Yadlin and Air Forces Intelligence head Brig. Gen. Avishai Levi are facing trial in absentia for the raid of the Turkish Mavi Marmara flotilla.
EU may lose Turkey by 2023, Erdogan says

The European Union will lose Turkey if it doesn't grant it membership by 2023, Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan said on Tuesday.
It was the first time Erdogan has given an indication of how long Ankara might continue down the path towards EU entry, and his comments came at a time of growing alienation between Turkey and a political entity it feels has cold-shouldered it.
