Russia court bans anti-Islam film 'Innocence of Muslims'

A Moscow district court on Monday found a film that has triggered sometimes violent protests throughout the Muslim world to be offensive and banned its broadcast in Russia.
After viewing "Innocence of Muslims," Judge Yevgeny Komissarov agreed with prosecutor Viktoria Maslova, who told the court that “the movie negatively depicts the Muslim religion and assists the growth of religious intolerance in the Russian Federation."

As fighting escalated in Syria on Thursday, French President Francois Hollande said his country and Britain have agreed on the need to speed up the transition from President Bashar Assad’s regime to a new government.
But Russian President Vladimir Putin said Western and Arab governments need to review their policy on Syria, saying the key objective should be to end the deadly violence.

Moscow is sending three large landing ships with marines aboard to a Russian naval facility in the Syrian port of Tartus, Russian news agencies quoted a source in the general staff as saying on Friday.
The source said each ship would have up to 120 marines on board and that the vessels, already in the Mediterranean, would arrive in Tartus by the end of this week.

Russia said on Friday it would urge U.N. special envoy Kofi Annan to work more closely with the Syrian opposition at talks in Moscow next week, and called for an inquiry into a massacre in Syria.
The Foreign Ministry said the massacre, in which opposition sources said about 220 people had been killed, served the interests of people who wanted a sectarian conflict in Syria, but did not directly apportion blame.
