Indonesian ambassador receives honorary medal from Russian muftis

The Russia Muftis Council has awarded Indonesian Ambassador to Russia Hamid Awaluddin with an “Al-Fahr” honorary medal for his role in initiating partnership between Indonesian and Russian Muslims.

The medal was handed over by council chairman Ravil Gaynutdin, who along with other prominent Russian muftis escorted it to Hamid’s official residence in Moscow on Saturday evening.

Russia to allot almost billion rubles for educating Islamic experts

Russia will continue preparing experts on history and culture of Islam, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said.

"We have allotted money for it in the budget this year, in 2012 and in 2013. We have envisaged a significant sum - almost a billion rubles (more than $32 million - IF)," Medvedev said at his meeting with Muslim clerics in Ufa, Bashkortostan.

Gathering in memory of Maksud Sadikov

Institute of Theology and International Relations (ITIR) organized a nation-wide event dedicated to the memory of late Maksud Sadikov, former Rector of the Institute, assassinated by gunmen in June this year in Makhachkala. Government officials, Dagestani clergy, Institute staff and students, Sadikov's friends and colleagues from other Universities, some 500 participants gathered in multi-purpose convention hall in Southern building of the Institute.

Moscow's Historic Mosque Demolished on 9/11 Anniversary

A century-old mosque that survived the Soviet crackdown on religion was demolished in downtown Moscow on the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.

The destruction was carried out on the instructions of Russia's top muftis, who said the wooden building had begun to collapse after heavy rainfall over the weekend. But architectural preservationists denounced the decision as an "act of unbelievable barbarity."
