(IslamDag) - Dagestan will start the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan on Monday along with most other Gulf states, Dagestani Mufti Ahmad Haji Abdulaev said on Saturday.

"I ask Allah to give us the opportunity, strength and health to perform our best worship for Him in this holy month, so that we can commit more good deeds" - he said on nationwide TV address.

Every year Muslims in Russia celebrate birthday of Prophet Muhammad [peace be upon him] showing their respect and honor for the Messenger of Islam.

(IslamDag) - Heart of any Muslim cannot be indifferent to the Quran and therefore, with the hope for understanding and help of all who get this message, we search for hand-written Quran of village Chuni of Levashinsky district, Dagestan.

The unique Quran which was kept away from anti-religious bodies during the communist regime in USSR, when mosques were closed and the religious literature was destroyed, could not have been protected presently.

A Muslim teacher who had publicly criticised radical Islamists was shot dead along with his nephew in Russia's volatile southern region of Dagestan, investigators said on Wednesday.

Maksud Sadikov, the principal of the Institute of Theology and International Relations, was shot in the yard of his home in the regional capital of Makhachkala late Tuesday, the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

Four people were rescued after they were buried under a snow avalanche in Russia's North Caucasus republic of Dagestan, local emergencies ministry's department said on Friday.

The rescue department received information about four people trapped in a snow avalanche near the village of Ansokh of the republic's Tsuntinsky district at 22.50 Moscow time (19.50 GMT) on Thursday.

One man was saved immediately and two more after several hours, a spokesman for the emergencies department said.

Mawlidur Rasul – a congregation of Muslims to honor the birth of our beloved Prophet Muhammad [pbuh] was held in Makhachkala after the evening prayer on 15 February.
