Israel harms Palestinian economy: report

Israeli restrictions and closures coupled with the worsening fiscal situation of the Palestinian Authority is causing "lasting damage" to the competitiveness of the Palestinian economy, the World Bank warns.

In a report issued on Tuesday ahead of a meeting of global donors in Brussels on March 19, the World Bank explored the long-term damage to the economy as a result of the worsening financial crisis facing the Ramallah-based government and the absence of peace talks, which have been stalled since late September 2010.

Turkey, Malaysia have potential to make $11.7 bln trade

Turkish Economy Minister Zafer Caglayan said on Friday that Turkey and Malaysia had potential to make 11.7 billion U.S. dollars of foreign trade.

Delivering a speech at the Turkish-Malaysian Business Council meeting, Caglayan said that although total foreign trade of both countries was more than 776 billion U.S. dollars, trade volume between the two countries was 1.7 billion U.S. dollars.

The two countries would work to increase trade volume to 5 billion U.S. dollars in a shortest period of time, he said.

Growing from a handful of Muslim residents a decade ago, the Muslim community in the south-west of Shanghai Yiwu city has remarkably become the fastest growing Muslim community in China.

"It is really spectacular," the mosque's imam, Aisin-Gioro Baoquan, said of the increase in the number of Yiwu's Muslims, The National newspaper reported on Sunday, August 12.
