Russians Muslims welcomed holy Ramadan with great enthusiasm. Around 20 million of Muslims around Russia including the capital city of Moscow flocked to the mosques to perform the first Tarawih prayer of this Ramadan.
Moscow is also home to two million Muslims who welcomed Ramadan with great joy. The tent mosque near the Moscow Central Mosque is also serving Muslims in performing their prayers.

The Russian government has introduced a degree program for Islamic Studies across the country and the decision has attracted tremendous praise as some have welcomed the move for better preparing experts on Islam and some say that the move will help curb extremism through spreading peaceful Islamic teachings.
“Students will study for three or five years without going abroad,” Damir Gizatullin, first Deputy Head of the Spiritual Directorate of the Muslims of European Russia and Siberia, said.

A Russian government decision to hammer out a degree program for Islam study is gaining mixed reactions, with some hail the move for helping better prepare experts on the Islamic faith, while others see it as an attempt to counter extremism.

Mawlid Celebration at the central mosque in Makhachkala was packed with thousands of believers of all ages and social groups. All were united by a single faith in the Creator and with love for His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).

Spiritual Administration of Dagestani Muslims announced that lectures about the life of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) will be conducted in all the mosques in the republic throughout the month of Rabiul Awwal. The statement was made by Abdullah Haji Magomedov, Chief Editor of Avar edition of Assalam newspaper at the Majlis of Ulama held last Saturday at the central Juma mosque in Makhachkala, Dagestan.

Strongest grandmother in the world lives in the Dagestani village of Sultan Yangiyurt, IslamDag.ru reports. 78-year-old Sakinat Hanapieva did not know that her achievements have long been listed in the Guinness Book of Records. Sakinat lives very modestly, she doesn’t have her own house, so she moved to the home of her daughter and son in law.

Government plans to build six new mosques in the Russian capital Moscow are sparking a controversy in the country, with nationalists calling for a public referendum on the construction of the Muslim worship places.
“I would not like a mosque to be built near my apartment building,” Alexander Belov, leader of the Russkiye nationalistic movement, told Interfax on Monday, December 17.
“But I don't live in Lyublino or Butovo, I live in Orekhovo.”
